The Downtown Vancouver Association is deeply saddened to announce the passing, on February 28, of Mr. Jim Green, a long time DVA supporter. Jim’s vast contributions in the areas of social activism, politics and, in recent years, urban planning for the Downtown and the Downtown Eastside will be forever remembered.

Mr. Green was inspiring in his tireless efforts both as founder of a people’s bank, which gave vulnerable residents a safe place to keep their money, and as persuader to the City to include large numbers of social housing units in the redevelopment of the old Woodwards’ site -- two of his greatest legacies. His actions will continue to remind us all of how he embodied his passion for social justice and constant perseverance.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and membership of the DVA we extend our most deepest sympathies to Jim Green’s wife, family, friends and loved ones. Jim will be greatly missed by the city of Vancouver but his legacy of dedication and service will never be forgotten.
